Connect gas detection to a defined response.
Industrial Leader engineers fixed gas detection and associated control interfaces for laboratories, plant rooms and industrial facilities. We help define how detectors, controllers, alarms, ventilation and isolation interfaces work together, then test the agreed cause-and-effect. The system scope is shaped around the gases, the installation and the site's risk assessment.

Review the hazard and the installation together
Detector selection and location depend on more than the name of the gas. We review the expected release sources, concentration ranges, room geometry, ventilation and manufacturer requirements with the responsible site team. The project defines any specialist assessments and design inputs needed before equipment is selected. Requirements are confirmed for the actual application and jurisdiction.
- Toxic, flammable and oxygen-related detection applications
- Laboratories, process areas and plant-room interfaces
- Site-specific requirements established during engineering review
Document what every alarm should do
A cause-and-effect schedule connects each input condition with its required response. It can cover audible and visual alarms, ventilation commands, gas-supply interfaces and signals to SCADA or BMS. Faults and loss of power or communications also need defined behaviour. Alarm levels and actions are determined from the approved design, not a generic website example.
- Alarm stages, indications and reset requirements
- Ventilation and isolation interfaces where specified
- Detector fault, controller fault and communication status
Integrate with the plant without weakening protection
Operations and facilities teams benefit from seeing detector status alongside the rest of their equipment. We scope relay or supported data interfaces for gas levels, alarms and system health. The protective response and its independence are established by the engineering design. A dashboard, historian or remote notification does not replace the required local detection and protective functions.
- BMS and SCADA status integration
- Recorded events and maintenance information
- Clearly defined boundaries between monitoring and protective control
Test the complete chain of response
Commissioning checks must connect the detector response with the actions it is intended to initiate. We develop an agreed test plan using appropriate manufacturer procedures and suitable test equipment. Results identify the asset, test conditions, observations and outstanding actions. Site coordination is essential where testing affects ventilation, gas supply or an operating process.
- Detector checks and specified gas testing
- Cause-and-effect verification and witnessed test points
- Documented settings, outcomes and unresolved items
Make ongoing inspection and records practical
Fixed detection equipment needs an ongoing maintenance arrangement. We document the agreed inspection, testing and calibration responsibilities using manufacturer guidance and site requirements. Asset records should make the installed model, service information and test history easy to find. Panel Passport can be considered as a separate pilot option for organising approved records and future service entries.
- Equipment register and manufacturer documentation
- Test and calibration records within the agreed scope
- Handover of drawings, settings and maintenance responsibilities
Questions about gas detection & interlocks
Which standards apply to our installation?
The applicable requirements depend on the gas, equipment, location and risk assessment. We identify the relevant standards and any specialist design or assessment responsibilities during project scoping rather than assuming one requirement fits every site.
How often should detectors be tested or calibrated?
Intervals are established from the manufacturer's instructions and the site's risk and maintenance requirements. The scope identifies the required checks and records; a universal interval is not assumed.
Can you add gas alarms to our existing BMS?
We can assess supported relay or data interfaces and the information your facilities team needs. Integration must preserve the protective functions defined by the approved design and be tested as part of the change.
